AIRVAULT, a small medieval Poitou town not far from Parthenay, is ideally situated between Futuroscope, the Marais Poitevin (“Green Venice”) and the Puy du Fou historical theme park.
The area is perfect for country rambles as AIRVAULT is situated on the GR36 long-distance footpath, one of the pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostela, and is at the heart of numerous paths for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders.
Anglers will also find all they need here, with the river Thouet and the Pescalis angling centre close by.
AIRVAULT is classified as a “Cité de Caractère” (small town with character) with its captivating abbey church of St Pierre, one of the jewels of Poitou Romanesque art, its 18th century covered market, and underground spring. Also of historical interest are the former abbey (now a museum of country life), picturesque narrow streets with 15th and 16th half-timbered houses, two medieval bridges and the 11th to 14th century CHÂTEAU.
As the owners of this medieval Château (which appears in the Listing of Historic Monuments), we offer you the chance to discover the magic and poetry of this historic building with a stay of one or more nights.
