In 1439, Marie Rieux, the Duchess of Thouars, attacked Airvault with 1500 soldiers. After overcoming and destroying the town’s fortifications, the soldiers turned their attention to the château, which was able to withstand the onslaught. However, the fiery duchess ordered so many arrows, stones and other projectiles to be fired into the interior of the château that Sybille de Liniers, the wife of the lord of Airvault, had to abandon her apartments to avoid “serious injury and perhaps death”.
Both rooms in our Family Suite are full of light thanks to the stone mullioned window through which you can see the château walls and keep, as well as the St Pierre church spire and the town of Airvault.
Possibility of single bed in addition to be selected in the extras of the booking engine.
